Jack Dempsey (World Heavyweight Champion 1919-1926) was America’s first broadcast superstar. In 1921, a crowd of 91,000 gathered in Jersey City, NJ to see Dempsey defend his title against Frenchman Georges Carpentier. The RCA radio network made it the first nationally broadcasted event in history. Dempsey beat the Frenchman into submission in 4 rounds. – Chris Stewart
